Two Rock Software

I co-founded Two Rock Software with Victor Rocha.

We're a custom software shop based in Durham, NC, building web applications primarily with Django and Python. I've been building on the web since 1995 and with Django since it was young. At Two Rock I focus on web application development and architecture, devops, client relationships, and the day-to-day work of running a small software firm.

We work with small and mid-sized organizations that need software built to their specific needs. Projects tend to be complex: case management systems, compliance tools, accounting software, CRMs, form-heavy workflows, data-intensive backends.

Two Rock is a Bronze-level corporate member of the Django Software Foundation.

DEFNA & DjangoCon US

I'm the President of DEFNA, the Django Events Foundation North America, which runs DjangoCon US and supports other Django-related events around the world.

My open source contributions are focused on community. The djangocon and DEFNA GitHub orgs are where most of that lives. In 2025 I built a travel safety app for DjangoCon US attendees: it lets people register their flight details and emergency contacts before the conference so organizers can monitor arrivals and confirm everyone gets there safely. The code is on GitHub.

Extraordinary Ventures

I serve on the Board of Directors of Extraordinary Ventures, a Chapel Hill nonprofit founded on the principle that all people are employable. They create sustainable small businesses — a thrift store, a laundry, an event center, a gifts operation, and more — staffed by adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They've logged over 240,000 hours of meaningful employment since founding. Before joining the board in 2022, I helped run a basketball camp there, took a lot of photos, and built numerous websites for them

Previously

For the 11 years before starting Two Rock Software, I was a freelance web developer. I worked with a lot of small businesses and nonprofits. I also managed a lot of Google Ads accounts and did search engine optimization.

Before going out on my own in 2009, I worked as a barista, was the go-to computer technician on campus, ran IT for some small organizations, and spent a few years roasting coffee at Joe Van Gogh. My history with service work helps me put myself in clients shoes and better understand their needs rather than just their asks.
